Cape & Cowl Con is back, baby!
This past Sunday, August 30th, the fourth annual comic convention run by Oakland’s Cape & Cowl Comics returned to Faction Brewing in Alameda, CA. The FREE one-day show brought some big name, well-known, and regional comic creators all under one roof for an event not-to-be-missed! Comics Bodega attended this year’s con to connect with writers & artists and bring you content from the show so you can see what it’s all about.
The event, presented by Vault Comics, featured over 150 artists & vendors, offered convention exclusives, and some panels sponsored by IDW Publishing. Additional sponsors included Mad Cave Studios, Image Comics, Oni Press, Arsenal Comics & Games, Invader Comics, and YCNEO.
PLUS! It was free to attend and all ages were welcome!
Faction Brewing, the host site of the event, provided not only a lot of space for creators and booths (both inside & outside), it also set a sweet backdrop inside the building with the barrels and brewing ambiance.
The show and the turnout was incredible. I took some video footage to show you how this convention looked. Some great creators in attendance, too!
For this con, I also made sure to do something for me, rather than being there strictly as a media outlet covering the event. What did I do? I got my comics signed and picked up some fantastic deals from the creators themselves! I got books signed by Dave Dwonch, David Mack, David Booher, Zack Kaplan, Tony Fleecs, Tone Rodriguez, Jordan Blum, and Timmy Heague!

With the excitement of this convention staying with me even after I left, I knew I needed to get my thoughts and feelings out loud while in the moment.
So on my drive home from Alameda to South Lake Tahoe, I decided to record myself to share what I experienced..
If you are able to make the trip to the Bay Area next year, this a must-see event. More shows should be like this. Hats off to the team at Cape and Cowl Comics for what they’ve put together. Comics Bodega & Jason Bennett approved. You’ll most certainly be guaranteed to have a comic con experience like no other!
