Comics Bodega has announced our first (of many) awards for comic creators and the industry. Our inaugural award goes to the “Deadliest Man in Comics” – Rylend Grant!
He’s a Ringo Award winner. He crushes all of his crowdfunding campaigns. He’s won multiple Telly Awards for The Writers Block podcast, which he co-hosts with the brilliant writer & raconteur David Avallone. He’s a martial arts savant. He’s an accomplished screenwriter, with projects available for purchase or streaming featuring well-celebrated stars. He’s the owner of the publishing company Half Evil Comics. He was also the winner of PopCultHQ’s Cards with Comic Creators (Season One) Texas Hold ‘Em tournament.

It’s hard not to recall the imagery and flair of Count Dante, who was an American martial artist during the 60s and 70s who claimed he could do extraordinary feats such as Dim Mak (the “touch of death“). Count Dante was the self-acclaimed “The Deadliest Man Alive.” See where we’re going with this? He even had sick advertisements. Rylend deserves the same promotion.
During our trip to Los Angeles to cover L.A. Comic Con 2025, we connected with the Deadliest Man in Comics in Eagle Rock, CA at his dojo, Arnott Kenpo Karate to present him with an official award and a special gift. Upon reflection, as well as the final moments of our encounter, we made the right call with his new moniker – DMiC.
