On Tuesday, September 15th (bookstores) & Wednesday, September 16th (comic shops), Mad Cave Studios releasing YOU ARE ON NATIVE LAND: A Charity Comic for Indigenous Rights Vol. 1!
Writer and illustrator Arihhonni “Honni” Cannon Clay David spoke to the personal meaning behind his contributions to the collection:
“I wanted to share an ongoing series I’ve been working on through my illustrations, modernizing the Flying Head Legends. The pieces show how our youth would face off with these horrible legends of old while centering on our people’s resilience even in the face of such overwhelming odds. We are still here. I hope this anthology reaches as many people as it can across Turtle Island, lending support to MMIWG survivors and amplifying the voices of so many Indigenous creatives.”
Contributing poet Kelly Lynne D’Angelo added:
“Storytelling has always been a way our people carry truth forward. Being part of You Are On Native Land means honoring that responsibility, not just to be seen, but to be heard, celebrated, and held. This work was created in the spirit of giving, as our people do, and I hope readers feel that care in every page. More than anything, I hope this anthology helps people move beyond seeing Native communities and their efforts as separate from their own, and instead recognize the deep connection and responsibility we all share to each other and to the land, at large, now more than ever.”
On the importance of the anthology, editor Sarah Brunstad said:
